Cacophobia

(Above is a picture of an ugly dog, ugly man,
ugly sweater and ugly hair)

Well Uglies, as I was pondering what the topic of my next post should be I thought “Well I’m sure none of them know the true definition of Cacophobia.” So here is my explanation that will hopefully answer all of your cacophobic questions.

Cacophobia is the overwhelming, irrational fear of ugliness. (Some people may think we discriminate against ugly people, but ugly is a relative term, what is ugly to us may not be ugly to you. Also, we are indefinite about our Cacophobia) But cacophobes can also be afraid of not only ugly people, but ugly things. It is usually caused by an event in your past involving something or someone ugly that scarred you for life. It can also be triggered if you associate with people who you consider to be ugly.

Just a few of the symptoms of this serious problem are dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, trembling, and feeling out of control. Cacophobia is usually self diagnosed, but there are several treatments to help the unfortunate souls who deal with these symptoms each and every day. Some include: exposure therapy, support groups, and anti-anxiety medication (for severe cases only).

So now you know the severity of Cacophobia. Maybe you realized you have it yourself, or that you can help someone you know who suffers from it. Maybe you think I’m crazy. But either way, keep reading and keep spreading the word about Cacophobia.
